Keynote Presentation by Nir Zuk, serial entrepreneur and founder and CTO , Palo Alto Networks Creative innovation on the right side of the law – New thinking to keep ahead of modern malware Amazing things happen when creative minds move to Silicon Valley. Nir Zuk showed early signs of being just the sort of moth to be drawn to that flame. His focus was on network security having, as a 16 year old whizz kid in Israel, written some of the very first computer viruses on his Dragon 64. Happily for the industry, he then u-turned his passion to address protection and embarked on a career in the network security industry. Many know that Zuk developed stateful inspection technology and the first commercially viable firewall while working at Check Point — but fewer know that he also founded OneSecure and built the world’s first IPS system. There he set about improving and optimising then-current solutions to plug holes within the firewall being exploited by old-school hackers. He also focused on ways of automating as much of the malware intelligence and detection as possible. A decade has passed and threats have evolved, and they are now highly targeted against individual enterprises. Again, Nir Zuk and his team are scrutinising conventional security approaches and finding radical ways to innovate.
